Even though I address a number of typical responses and excuses in previous podcast episodes, I felt it was important to return to this topic, because there really is such an interesting dynamic that takes place when someone says "I'm vegan." Some responses can throw the vegan for a loop, including: "I'm vegan, too, but I eat chicken, fish, and eggs" or "I tried being vegan, but I felt tired and lethargic" or "I used to be vegan, but now I buy 'humane' meat, dairy, and eggs and feel good being connected to my food" or "I used to be vegan, but my acupuncturist told me I had to start eating (animal) meat again, and so I have." Take a listen, and hopefully some of my suggestions will help when replying to such statements.
~I am a animal rights activist, a human rights activist and a environmentally concerned citizen. I do my very best not to use animal based products in all facets of my life, and I do not consume them! I also make every effort not to generate waste that will negatively affect our world. I am a vegan for the planet, for the animals, and for human posterity. I believe every choice we make should be made with the consideration of the generations to come. And with that, I believe in showing respect and compassion to the innocent animals that share our mother earth.
The last portion of this POD cast sent chills over my entire body.. I hadn't thought about what it takes for creatures to kill others..
omgosh, Colleen, i've heard these sooooo many times. I've found it quite a challenge to engage in any meaningful conversation about the issues because it incredibly challenging to first unravel the tangled web of assumptions, misinformation, and rationalizations people hold--especially in "sound bite" situations.
Thanks for what you do Colleen :)
This is the first podcast I've listened to and I found it very interesting and helpful, plus I was quite surprised to hear about some of the excuses people make to justify returning to eating meat! - am looking forward to hearing how to respond to hostile friends and family!
